Day 8

Made it into week two! Hell yes.

Started the こと lesson module today, and my brain melted. Once again, a lack of awareness as to how vocabulary LOOKS is killing me. Nothing I’m not expecting as I go through things, but I didn’t expect it to knock me out of the running on almost everything in this module except for what was in English: the video and the worksheet. Ha.

So, the way I’m tackling this module will be slow, but the benefits will be great, I believe. I ran through the lesson from top to bottom, and now I’m repeating it, but this time writing out everything I don’t know by hand. I’ll likely build cards into Anki so I can practice the words, and will likely have Reiko read through things so I can shadow as well. I’m guessing it might take me the entire week to get through this particular lesson. We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted as to the results. I’m also noticing I did not take notes during the video. A big boo-boo on my part, and one of the things I literally tell learners not to skip when learning with us. Something about video turns us into passive creatures… keeping that pencil at the ready and finger on the spacebar to pause is REALLY important. So, I’ll be watching the video again too… likely tomorrow. And, taking notes.
