Day 2

I have no idea what I’m doing.
Of course, this is no surprise to me.

And… in a sense… I do (actually?) know more than I know.

But when it comes to any functional understanding of Japanese… the sort of understanding that would allow me the opportunity for a fluid conversation in the language… I am, well…, lacking. For the most part, I exist in a sea of vocabulary unmoored from structure. Listening to the cold read after having (somewhat successfully) gone through the vocabulary overview left me in the position of knowing a lot of words that served me none. It was like literally being able to identify the meaning of words, but not being able connect anything… to understand what was meant, but not to understand what was actually being said. Frustrating to say the least.

Still, I went through it all. After about 40 minutes of studying material that gave me a good sense of where I need to focus (and likely pause for awhile), I was ready to call it a day after downloading the “Overview” for paragraph One. Overnight (perhaps in some sort of terror dream) I’ll come up with a solution as to how I can tackle the material I’m already behind on so as to move ahead.

Onward to Day 3!
