Day 10

April 30, 2025

Tonight, is a drinking night.

Which doesn’t mean no studying took place; it means less intense studying took place. Life is worth living, and studying is part of that, not all of that. This evening, while in the remaining throes of a good bottle of cheap Cabernet from 7-11, and some damn good Meiji chocolate ice cream, I took up the ている episode…

The big take-away from this two-parter is the complexity and subtle simplicity of ている. It is far more than its presentation in most media you will consume about Japanese… it is subtle, yet impactful. Of course, I’m being obtuse here, but that’s the idea… ている is more than you believe it to be.

I’ll have more on this tomorrow sans the Red. Suffice it to say, this is one of the more complex, yet informative, of episodes… you will enjoy it.

’nuff for now!

Peace out.

D

P.S.! Of additional note… vocab. The heron we spotted today (they seem to be common around here) finally got a name: 鷺 (さぎ). Also, 石工 (いしく/せっこう) … for masons… cats like me who play with rocks.

Time spent: @ 20 minutes of real studying … 😉
Completed Anki deck: no (gosh, I’m bad at this!)
Start time: 9:36pm
End time: 10:16pm
