Program Tuition

The effect of partner scholarships, completion bonuses (cash-back rebates), and our relative purchasing power parity program can have a significant impact on your enrollment cost; each are described in more detail below.

Additionally, Maplopo alumni and program partners are eligible for referral commissions that begin at $50 and can go as high as $500 for learner and partner referrals, respectively.

U.S. resident tuition for the 2025–26 program year is $2,499. Learners outside the U.S. should visit the below Relative Purchasing Power Parity section for an explanation of your tuition rate.

Scholarships & Rebates

Scholarships: A reduction in the overall cost of tuition may be available to you through our partner network. Partners come in all shapes and sizes and include: educators, employers, professional and collegiate organizations, special interest groups, and associations. Ask your benefits administrator, organization leader, department head, or Japanese language tutor if they have an agreement with us that will help you. If not, have them reach out via our partners page. There is no cost to establish a partner relationship with Maplopo.

Rebates: All learners who complete the program during their prescribed 10 weeksand do so with an achievement score of 80% or betterreceive a $100 cash-back rebate within two weeks of finishing the program. Learners must complete all assignments prior to the close of the ten week session and must attend all live sessions to be eligible for the rebate.

Payment Plans

Payment Plans: Maplopo offers a three-tiered payment plan designed to accommodate the changing availability of both individual and company budgets. It is also designed to serve as extrinsic motivation for learners; as one presses on through the course, payments are reduced encouraging forward momentum when it’s sometimes needed most.

Tiered payments and due dates look like this:

  • $1250 (Due within three days of acceptance. This payment reserves your spot.)
  • $750 (Due one day prior to the kickoff call in week one.)
  • $499 (Due prior to the live session kickoffs which take place beginning in week five.)

Learners, of course, have the option of paying in full. There is no penalty for breaking up a tuition payment, and no bonus for paying early, or in full. Simply submit in the way that works best for you. Keep in mind there are no refunds offered whatsoever. Once your spot is reserved and paid for, we expect you to attend on day one and commence with the program.

Relative Purchasing Power Parity (RPPP)

Relative Purchasing Power Parity (RPPP): Maplopo strives to keep our program affordable regardless of residency. Because of this, tuition varies. Tuition is based upon an initial USD framework, then extrapolated from there based on cost-of-living indices from the World Bank. In general, we aim to provide as close to a one-to-one tuition rate when possible. Meaning, if you live in AU, NZ, or CAN and have “dollars” as a currency, your tuition investment would look very much like that of a U.S. learner in YOUR dollars. The same would hold true for learners in  Japan, the UK, or in Europe: $1 of tuition in the U.S. would equate to ¥100., £1 or  1€. Pricing tuition in this way is relatively straightforward when currencies are in dollars, yen, pounds or euro; recognizably, not so simple with currencies outside this pocket of inclusion. For this reason, to price accurately, we use information from the World Bank and follow as closely as possible a relative purchasing power parity plan. As such, the cost of our program runs similar to that of a new Apple Macbook Pro laptop in most countries. You can find your tuition as it relates to RPPP on our Relative Purchasing Power Parity page.

Referral Commissions

Referrals: Maplopo issues two types of referrals. We pay referrals when a new learner is referred and accepted into the program, as well as when a new partner is referred and signs an agreement to work with us. Learner referrals are only available to Maplopo alumni.

We do not have an “affiliate” program that pays referral bonuses to any individual for any individual learner referral. Partner referrals, however, are available to anyone who wishes to recommend a partner. Learners, therefore, are eligible for both types of referrals.

All referral commissions are distributed in USD. For each individual learner accepted into a program, we pay $50. For each partner who signs an agreement with us, and enrolls at least four learners, we pay $500.

Maplopo is the only immersive, synchronous AND asynchronous program specifically designed to help intermediate and advanced learners internalize the Japanese language through the power of story. Over the span of 10 weeks, we provide learners with the knowledge, structure, and accountability needed to break through learning ceilings so they can close the gap between where they are and where they want to be. Participants gain access to the language on a deeper level and learn how to use these skills through hands-on work and training from top instructors and professionals both inside and outside Japan.
